Understanding Your Lab Report: What the Numbers Mean
We break down the proximate analysis values on our lab reports and what they tell you about your cat's food.
By Raleigh Reserve Editorial

Raleigh Reserve recipes are independently tested by Carolina Analytical Services, LLC for proximate nutrient values: moisture, protein, fat, fiber, and ash, with carbohydrates and calories calculated from those values.
Each value is determined using standardized AOAC methods: moisture (AOCS Ba 2a-38/AOAC 930.15), crude protein (AOCS Ba 4f-00/AOAC 990.03), crude fat (AOAC 954.02), crude fiber (AOCS Ba 6a-05), and ash (AOAC 942.05).
Understanding these values helps you make informed decisions. High moisture supports hydration. Real protein from animal sources supports muscle and organ function. Low carbohydrates align with a cat's natural dietary design.
